Welcome to our very first Free Resource Friday where I share and review a free resource for you and your team!  Today’s free resource consists of three team building videos that you can view and use as training for your team or for your own personal leadership development.

These videos are part of a larger video series done by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Although these are targeted to small businesses, these videos cover topics on team building that are basic team building strategies for businesses of any size.

The three videos featured here are Lectures 8 through 10 in a larger lecture series, Strategies for Growth.  There are 28 lectures in this course  You can find this course either on SBA website or on Free Video Lectures.  (If you want to look at all of the videos, go to the Free Video Lectures site because you can see the list of all 28 videos, but not on the SBA site.)

Review of the Free Team Building Training Videos

Strengths:

These videos are well done and well-produced.  Each video gives good basic strategies and tips for how to build a team, how to run team meetings, how to increase employee motivation, and more.

The videos are short and to the point.  The shortest video is less than 2 minutes long, the longest one is just under 10 minutes.  They would work well to share with management and even use as training videos for professional development.

You can also download the videos or embed them in a website (like I did above).  If you work with a virtual team, these can be used in a number of ways.  You can have your team members download them and discuss them, or you can send them a link, or have them available on one site, where they can view the videos and answer questions and interact with each other as a team.

Improvements:

These videos are geared for the start-up business owner or someone that needs to brush up on their team building training strategies.  If you want more in-depth training, you will need to look elsewhere.

All of the training is done interview-style, which is fine, but it would be nice to see a little more variety in the type of training.  Visual aids, such as PowerPoint slides, or something similar would help to reinforce the points, and make it useful for note-taking (especially if you were using this for team training).

Downloadable worksheets would also be helpful.  It doesn’t take much to create a PDF these days, and with the resources of the SBA could be very doable with not much investment other than a little bit of time.

There you go!  I hope these are valuable to you and your team.  Join me next month when I will share and review another team building training resource.  To make sure you don’t miss out, sign up for my email list now – it’s FREE too.
